The Problem
HR software for small companies is either absurdly expensive (Workday, BambooHR) or too simple to be useful. Small teams deserve a real HR tool without an enterprise price tag or a six-month implementation.
The Process
Designed the data model around the employee record as the central entity, with payroll, onboarding, and documents all hanging off it. The onboarding workflow is checklist-driven: each new hire gets a tailored checklist generated from a template, with completion tracking per item.

Behind the Build
Centering the data model on the employee record rather than on HR processes was the right architectural call — it made every feature (payroll, onboarding, documents) naturally hang off a single entity rather than requiring complex joins. PAD AI required careful prompt design to stay within policy context rather than giving generic HR advice that could create liability.
