/now · a snapshot
What Cedar is focused on now.
A snapshot of what I'm doing right now — inspired by Derek Sivers.
What I'm building
Foulweather Labs — this site
Finishing Sprint 1: RSS feed, /now page, booking embed, OG images, changelog. Building the portfolio into a full company site with a private tools lab behind auth.
11-site SaaS portfolio
Running a portfolio of 11 small SaaS products across niches: job boards, forex trading, AI tools, price comparison, news, mindfulness. Building, iterating, and watching which ones stick.
Oregon coast monitoring tools
Personal project: surf conditions, tide data, HWY 20 mountain pass conditions, crabbing/fishing reports. Scratch-your-own-itch software for life on the coast.
What I'm reading
The Innovator's Dilemma — Clayton Christensen
Re-reading it. The patterns keep showing up in how I think about which SaaS products to build — attack the bottom of markets incumbents ignore.
Hell or High Water — Ivan Doig
Pacific Northwest writing. Good for grounding when the screen time gets heavy.
What I'm thinking about
Vertical AI agents replacing SaaS categories
Which of my 11 products will look different in 2 years because an agent can do the job? Which ones will be defensible because they're community or data flywheels, not just software?
The texture of local software
Building tools for where you live — surf checks, tide pools, mountain passes — feels different than building for an abstracted user. More grounded. More honest. Wondering if there's a business model in hyper-local software.
Portfolio businesses vs. focused bets
Running 11 sites tests optionality vs. depth. At some point I'll need to pick 1–2 and go deep. Still deciding when that point is.
Where I am
Newport, Oregon
On the Oregon coast — cold water, gray sky, Dungeness crab season, and a fiber connection fast enough to ship software from. This is where Foulweather Labs runs.
This is a /now page, a convention started by Derek Sivers. If you have a website, you should make one.
